The West Lothian Community Plan 'Shaping the Future' sets out a 10 year strategy which will bring a better quality of life for everyone living, working and doing business in West Lothian.
Shaping West Lothian's future, needs organisations to work together to plan and deliver services. The Information Sharing Partnership provides a mechanism for sharing consistent data and mapping between the services & agencies working across West Lothian in order to inform the development and monitoring of the Community & Locality Planning process. This website combines data and information supplied by partner agencies, with information sourced externally from Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics or from the Census (2001). The information can ve viewed as tables or as static & interactive maps.
Shaping the Future - The Current West Lothian Community Plan
Please Note: Unfortunately, due to pressure of competing priorities, new data has been added to the website pages, but the databank does not contain the most recent data which is available on the
Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics website.
The databank content will be re-built following the review (see right), which has been examining future needs.
If you feel that there may be more recent data to which you need access, or would like to have mapped, please contact the administrator, Bob Stead (bob.stead@westlothian.gov.uk) for assistance.
West Lothian Youth Congress The Scottish Public Health Observatory at ISD have also agreed to participate in the data sharing working group, to provide input on local health data.
Locality planning has introduced a new dimension to the community planning process by engaging with local communities to identify local priorities for action. This work started in early 2005, and initially focussed on the communities living in each of the nine non-denominational secondary school catchments. In future, work will be centred on the nine multi-member wards.
It is intended that this site will present facts and figures about each settlement, and data on a range of measurable indicators which will help to inform the work of partner agencies, and indicate whether the initiatives which are being put into place e.g. as a result of the locality & community planning process are working effectively.
The public sector duties on race, disability and gender require that equality considerations are now integrated into all the functions and policies of each partner agency. There is a requirement to assess the potential impact all policies to ensure that we do not inadvertently create a negative impact for equality groups. The 'equality strands' now include age, disability, gender, race, sexuality, religion and belief.
We will endevour to present data on equalities issues, but there is still very little data available (the most recent comprehensive data on religion & ethnicity is from the Census in 2001). We have used the census data from 2001 to create area profiles. It is hoped that more comprehensive data, will be gathered in the next census in 2011.

The 'latest news' items have been discontinued, but the web pages are still being updated where appropriate. For example, the latest local authority level population figures, estimating the population of West Lothian as 169,510 in June 2008 and the latest dwellings & household estimates released on 14.5.09. These estimate that the number of dewllings in 2008 was 73,948 (an increase of 967 or 1.3% since 2007), and the number of households was 72,248 (a rise of 897 or 1.3%).
Work has been been underway to build a new WLInfo website designed to present information in a range of different ways (rather than just by topic as at present). For example: the new site will also present the information used in the West Lothian Single Outcome Agreement, on the local challenges, and on the life stage outcome planning work being undertaken in West Lothian.
The new site has not yet been launched, as we have also been reviewing the current website, and consulting with Partners about future requirements, the data (indicators) which should be reported on the website and the way in which the data should be presented. The development options proposed by the review will be considered by the CPP board in June & further information about future plans will be posted ASAP.
